Cap Cana
Cap Cana, Dominican Republic is both the most ambitious and the largest of all tourist destination developments that can be found within the Caribbean. Cap Cana is 47 square miles large, making it about twice the size of Manhattan in New York. The Cap Cana project can be found on the island known as Hispaniola on the eastern coast that is just a short five minutes away from the Punta Cana International Airport. Cap Cana is a ‘master plan’ community that boasts having one of the largest inland Marinas in the entire world, as well as five unique signature golf courses, several top-notch luxury hotels, and a host of private estates, beach clubs and private villas scattered along its sands.
Punta Espada was the first of Jack Nicklaus’ signature golf courses located within Cap Cana. Punta Espada was inaugurated in November of 2006, and came in 77th place in the list of the 100 best golf courses outside of the United States, which is a list that Golf Digest puts together every year. Punta Espada has now earned its place as one of the incredible PGA Championship Tour courses, and will be played between March 31 and April 6 in 2008.
In the beginning of this year, 2007, the developers who were working on Cap Cana came to an agreement with Donald Trump that would allow him to build ‘Trump at Cap Cana’. The first product of this unique new partnership was the ‘Trump Farallón Estates at Cap Cana”, which broke record sales of $300 million United States dollars in a single day during May of 2007. There are more than sixty-eight estates with around an acre and a half of space each. Each of the estates is located within a gated community area which is set more than two-hundred feet above the Caribbean Sea on the highest bluff in the entire area.
The Marina’s first phase was originally inaugurated near the eng of April in 2007, although the Marina continues to undergo construction and development even today. The entire Marina project will create a Marina that is the most modern and complete of every marina within the Caribbean. The Marina in Cap Cana will have a surface area of more than sixteen million square feet, with as many as a thousand slips available to cater to mega yachts and other incredible boats.
Cap Cana is a master planned community that is still heavily under construction even to this day. Bright minds and able-bodied hands continue to work hard on creating an undeniably popular tourist community out of this constantly growing island country. Cap Cana has gained so much popularity in recent months, that the winner of the Apprentice in May of 2007 chose her final job with Trump to be overseeing the development of his “Trump at Cap Cana” community. With bright minds like Stefani Schaeffer helping to oversee development, Cap Cana is sure to become quite the stunning tourist spot.
